Biological Energy Solutions began in 2014 after David Borsboom offered to help a friend transport canola oil between two Hutterite colonies. One client turned to two and as demand grew, David brought on his son Tyson to help. Word quickly spread about a local father-son duo transporting oil in a refurbished Wonder Bread truck.
Today, we are southern Alberta’s trusted canola oil supplier. Although we’ve replaced the Wonder Bread truck with a better-equipped 20-ton tanker, we’ve kept to our roots of being the friendly face you can count on to supply quality canola oil and get it where it needs to go. We partner with local farmers to deliver cold-pressed canola oil that meets the highest standard of quality. A superior filtration process means less sediment in the final product and more value in each drop.

The advantage of cold-pressed oil is evident in the quality of the product. Our filtered cold pressed oil has less sediment and more valuable antioxidants than you find in oil extracted through chemical or heated processes. This means our oil provides more value in the same volume and has a longer shelf life.
The production process for cold-pressed oil is entirely mechanical. Once seeds are harvested, they go through a rigorous screening process to remove excess debris and ensure they meet a specific moisture content. From there, seeds are put through an expeller that compresses the seed and extracts the oil. Oil is moved into a holding tank where it is filtered, resulting in a natural, unrefined canola oil suitable for industrial use.
We work closely with four local Hutterite colonies that grow and cold-press their own canola oil. We then supply the raw canola oil to buyers across Canada and the USA, fulfilling deliveries via our 20-ton capacity truck. Knowing our growers personally is a source of great pride for us and gives us a unique connection to the product’s origin. By working with local producers, we see for ourselves the effort and care that goes toward delivering a quality end product.
